An interactive advertisement for live installation events, this "Race Day" was created for General Motors to promote the Chevrolet Corvette. Attendees at the event were given the opportunity to sit in a Corvette in front of a pair of green screens and cameras and be composited live into the commercial spot.
The moments in the spot where you see empty track were filled with a green screen composite of a live Corvette and the event attendee - placing them, literally, "in the action."
Holben directed and shot the spot at the California Speedway in Fontana, California and was granted permission to utilize the official Pontiac pace car as the camera car. It was a trial by fire for the then new Panavision/Sony F900 digital cinema camera, which was driven around the track at speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
